For monitors you'll adjust frequently or heavy displays, Ergotron's quality justifies the investment. Budget arms work for static setups with light monitors.

Ergotron LX supports monitors from 7 to 25 lbs (3.2 to 11.3 kg), covering most monitors up to 34" ultrawide. For heavier displays, Ergotron HX supports up to 42 lbs. Always check your monitor's weight against arm specifications—an undersized arm won't hold position properly, while an oversized arm won't allow smooth adjustment for light monitors.

Ergotron LX uses a c-clamp (up to 2.4" thick desks) or grommet mount. The clamp distributes force across a wide area with protective padding, but thin or particle board desks may show marks over time. For fragile desks, use a reinforcement plate or choose the grommet mount through a drilled hole for maximum stability.

Ergotron LX comfortably handles most 34" ultrawides within its 25 lb weight limit. For 38"+ or heavier ultrawides, choose Ergotron HX with higher weight capacity and more robust construction. The LX's cable management may struggle with very wide monitors, but third-party clips can help organize cables along the arm.
